Born in Chur (1954), Silvia Buol studied fine art in Basel, and movement theatre and contemporary dance in Rome, Zurich and San Francisco.
She works at the intersection of dance, performance and visual art, having developed a strongly physical approach. She exhibits her work in art spaces, at festivals, in architectural contexts or in the landscape, in Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Germany, Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan, Scotland and Iceland.
At the Atelier da giast, she explored various locations in the Val Müstair through walks. Particularly above Lü, at the Pass da Costainas and in the ‘stone desert’ near Buffalora, she engaged with the landscape through performances, collected earth for her earth paintings, made drawings and rubbings, and took photographs of her investigations.
